Ian is the Founder of EnergyOcean.
He serves a wide range of clients across the blue economy including energy developers, technology innovators, investors, and start-up companies. He focuses on creating paths to success that align financial, societal, and environmental incentives.
Active in energy for over two decades, Ian has strong relationships with key decision makers in the private sector and in federal and state government.
Before founding EnergyOcean, Ian was venture integration manager for Shell Deepwater and has worked on new country entries, first-of-a-kind offshore concepts, demonstrations of innovative autonomous and environmental technologies, and ocean science projects around the world. Since 2021, he has served the offshore wind industry in the U.S.
Throughout his career, he has consistently been recognized by his peers to represent the energy industry in policy and public forums, including BOEM’s OCS Scientific Committee, the U.S. Oceans Research & Resources Advisory Panel, the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
Before joining the energy industry, he was an ocean scientist and lecturer at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Maine and a B.A. from Boston University where he played lacrosse.
